Lucas Serme (FRA) 2-1 Juan Camilo Vargas (COL) 11-6, 9-11, 11-2 (41m)
Nick Wall (ENG) 2-0 Yahya Elnawasany (EGY) 11-7, 11-9 (26m)
A bit of a strange third for Juan Camilo as he didn’t seem to be able to contain Lucas at while, while Yahya made far to many unforced errors, in particularly in the second, giving away points and strokes at crucial time, probably due to Nick’s pressure with accurate/powerful squash.

“I am really happy. It is my first match back after the summer break, and I had a pretty long break, so you kind of forget what a competitive match is, almost,” Serme admitted.
“It was also my first best-of-three match ever, so it was double the pressure, but I am happy I managed to get through that, to play a good solid match, a training partner as well, which is never easy.”

It was my first tournament played in BO3, that was interesting, I think it suits me because I like to play quite explosively, also, putting pressure on with longer rallies. First match of the season as well for me, you don’t know really where your level is. I tried to find fine foundation and basics.
Tomorrow, it’s going to be a tough one against Marwan obviously, but the pressure is off a little bit more, hopefully, I can let my arm go and really try and take it to him, see what I can do…
I think the fact that the new generation of English players coming up at the moment are pretty comfortable on the glasscourt, this generation of English players and the next hopefully had a bit more exposure to that. You’ve only got to look at the U19 World Champ Team, the quality of their game, then myself, and also Sam even younger, we want to start climbing these world rankings but it’s a slow process sometime.
I’m really happy to be working with my team in Hallamshire, Nick Matthew and Nick Guirey with quite a bit of input from David Pearson as well, we’ve got a whole team, strength conditioning, psychologist. I feel really lucky because I’m actually from Sheffield, you’ve got to make use of that, and not take it for granted: so many have to travel to play. And that makes it even more special, the atmosphere there is quite unique, I couldn’t ask for a better training environment really.
